IWILLs XP4: The Budget Business SFF Solution’
Title Gradient

As the Small Form Factor market continues to expand and more solutions become available we’re seeing various sub-sections of the SFF market emerge.  VIA’s multimedia-targeting EPIA series, MSI’s Metis, and Shuttle’s XPC lines are all technically SFF systems, but serve vastly different functions.  This sub-section divergence is what will eventually provide a type of SFF to satisfy the needs of almost any user, from the gaming enthusiast to the office worker.  Most of the current SFF systems to date have been higher-end enthusiast-oriented models, with extensive feature sets and typically high prices.  There have been fewer entries into the less-glamorous business SFF market, though several companies (most notably MSI) have released products into this area.

Although older, simpler SFF systems could theoretically qualify as business SFF’s, these systems (such as Shuttle’s SV24) are usually based on older Socket 370 technology and lack support for cutting-edge CPU’s or forward-looking features.  With the XP4, IWILL has designed a SFF solution they hope will bridge this gap and provide professional / business-oriented users with a low-cost, high-performance system.  The XP4 is not geared towards gaming enthusiasts or high-end multimedia systems, but those of you looking to build a high-performance general office computer may find this system appealing.

Although IWILL has made a name for themselves in the enthusiast market with boards like the KT133A-based KK266 or the i845PE-based P4HT-S, the company’s core focus is on professional level boards and workstation-level components.  IWILL products typically have a high price / performance ratio, and carry strong feature sets.  Both factors will be important as we compare the XP4 to other SFF systems on the market.
